Acting governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi From Wole Ayodele in Jalingo
Acting governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Jalingo following the outbreak of violence that erupted in some parts of the state. This is coming just as the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Arch. Darius Ishaku who came top in the election appeals to the people of the state to remain calm and go about their normal businesses while he explores all administrative and legal means to claim the mandate they gave him. In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Home Affairs, Mr Musa Gidado, the curfew was imposed to see prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state. No fewer than six people have been reportedly killed in some parts of the state following the declaration of the governorship election inconclusive by the returning officer, Prof. kyari Muhammed. Four people were killed in Sunkani, headquarters of Ardo Kola local government area and Garba Chede and some parts of Bali local government area while it took the intervention of Soldiers and other security agencies to foil a breakdown of law and other in some parts of Jalingo particularly Sabin Gari area while some people were arrested by Soldiers with Dane guns, bows and arrows and other dangerous weapons. Earlier in the day, the residences of the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Gebon Kataps and former Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon Abel Peter Diah in Gembu, headquarters of Sardauna local government area were set ablaze by irate youths.
Addressing Journalists after the declaration of the election inconclusive, Arch. Darius Ishaku thanked the people of the state for coming out enmass to vote for him in the election. He however expresses amazement that the results of the entire Donga local government with 165 polling units were cancelled due to alleged irregularities in 5 polling units of the council. According to him "I'm personally amazed that a complaint in 5 voting units in Donga local government area would lead to the cancellation of the whole of Donga with 165 voting units", he stated. Meanwhile, to avoid being caught in the web of violence that greeted the announcement even before the imposition of the curfew, shop owners hurriedly closed their shops while major streets of the state capital were deserted as residents make frantic efforts to rush to their various homes.
